Top 25 - Week 8

Oregon – Ducks ascend to number one in the mainstream polls without playing. They are first brand new number one since Virginia in 1990.
Auburn – Tigers offense is one of the best in college football. Is it good enough to survive much longer opposite an average at best defense.
Boise St. - Another week, another WAC blowout. Yawn.
Oklahoma – On top of the BCS, the Sooners face their toughest of the season so far with a road trip to Missouri. Luckily for them, they seem to have a mental hex over the Tigers.
TCU – Only given up 3 points in the last 3 games. Impressive work by the TCU defense after a bit of a slow start this season.
LSU – At least Les Miles didn't need the lucky rabbits foot or whatever he has for his luck against McNeese St., though it was an ugly ugly win.
Michigan St. - Spartans suddenly have the road to the Rose Bowl open with the Ohio St. loss. The problem of course is that the Iowa game is on the road.
Alabama – Crimson Tide are in the best shape of the one-loss contenders. Being in the best league and starting at number one works wonders.
Missouri – The Missouri defense is actually good and the competition has been better than most think as evidenced by the high computer rankings. Too bad Oklahoma and the Stoops hex is coming to town this week.
Utah – Ho hum, just like non-BCS counterparts TCU and Boise St.
Wisconsin – Big win over Ohio St. equals a big rise. I don't think they are that good, but the results say this is where the Badgers belong.
Ohio St. - It's back to the drawing board for Ohio St. now. The Buckeyes got physically manhandled and the result was an ugly looking loss.
Florida St. - Seminoles won ugly against Boston College, but that type of game is precisely the type Florida St. has lost over the last five years.
Stanford – Cardinal sit in good position for second place in the Pac-10 having already beaten USC and having played Oregon and still sitting tied for second in the loss column.
Arizona – With Nick Foles injured, the Wildcats may not be long for this spot. Matt Scott has been inconsistent at best as a thrower in his career so far and Arizona didn't look good at all last season until Scott went to the bench in favor of Foles.
Iowa – Hawkeyes are much better than this, but the head-to-head loss to Arizona is impossible to ignore until the Wildcats lose again.
Nebraska – Home loss to Texas was ugly. The receivers need to learn how to catch the ball but this has been an off and on problem in Lincoln for quite some time.
West Virginia – Mountaineers are quietly blowing up teams offenses with a good defense. There isn't an offense in the Big East that is likely to score enough points to beat this team.
Oklahoma St. - No, I don't believe and a home win against Nebraska won't do the trick. The three point wins over bad Troy and Texas A&M teams at home are red flags. Yes the win at Texas Tech was nice, but this is not a good Texas Tech team by any measure.
Virginia Tech – Hokies are playing like the ACC's best team. The hangover from the Boise St. and James Madison losses is done.
South Carolina – Same old Gamecocks. Chicken curse still active. Ugh.
Mississippi St. - Bulldogs would have a chance to win the SEC East this season. Too bad for them they play in the West and already carry losses to the two undefeated Tigers.
Arkansas – Arkansas has issues in the 4th quarter. Nothing more needs to be said.
Texas – Realistically, Texas is right where they are supposed to be. Two losses right now. Nebraska is a better team and Texas picked them off, but Texas is much better than UCLA and got picked off themselves. It happens.
Kansas St. - Wildcats destroyed Kansas, but everyone does (except Georgia Tech). In this spot by default as much as anything else since I don't think Miami deserves the ranking.
