Morning Review QuickThoughts Week 4

Notre Dame-Pittsburgh was just soul crushing to try and watch – At this point, we know what we're going to get out of ND. Lots of yards, stupid turnovers and a close game. For Pitt, they have been losing those type of games since before I can remember so this shouldn't have been a surprise.

Notre Dame is still going to win at least 8 games – Other than USC and Stanford, there is nobody left on the Irish schedule that can even challenge Notre Dame in the talent department. I expect at least some of the issues with turnovers to get figured out and Notre Dame to blow through everyone other than the two Pac-12 schools. And Notre Dame could beat both of them too. It's not inconceivable.

Pitt should be glad they are in the Big East – In that league, the Panthers have a shot at 6 wins a bowl eligibility. Anywhere else, and 4-8 would look likely including the ACC, where the Panthers will eventually extract themselves.

Georgia-Ole Miss was a game of “I don't want to win, will you?” - Georgia won because they didn't take part until they led 24-7 at halftime. Needless to say this game won't do much for either coach's job security. Richt needs blowouts in game like this and Nutt needs wins, any wins.

North Carolina loses on the North Carolina rule – Just funny, that's all.

Georgia Tech is back to where they were a couple of years ago – The Georgia Tech triple option offense looks really really good and it made the NFL bound North Carolina defensive line look foolish all day. Combine that with a downfield passing game that is successful again and Georgia Tech looks likes a contender in what appears to be an improved ACC. They do need to get better on defense though or Clemson will gut them later this season.

Maryland should just quit – The Terps no showed against Temple in a big way and Randy Edsall has now lost to the Owls two years in a row. Of course last year ended in the BCS. I have no such high hopes this season. The tread marks from being run over by Temple will be there all season, never to go away.

Michigan really is better – The last two years, Michigan fans suffered through a win against an overmatched opponent that portending the upcoming defensive doom. Today, the really good offense from San Diego St. moved the ball quite well (11 trips to Michigan territory) and couldn't finish anything off, scoring only seven points. Also, the Denard offense is still going quite well (199 yards rushing a 3 Tds today). The lack of points against portends well for the Wolverines.
