Clemson beat Florida St. - Clemson spent a good chunk of the 2nd half trying to be Clemson and hand the game over. Then Sammy Watkins got lose again and that was the game. Watkins seems to be immune to whatever mental insanity affects the rest of this program annually. The Tigers then settled down but still made it difficult on themselves. They should also be thankful they were facing a backup quarterback.
The FSU defense has issues – They didn't look as bad as Auburn last week, but it appeared only Clemson could stop Clemson this week. The Seminoles played well against Oklahoma last week, but this was a big step back.
Texas A&M totally melted down – Considering they led 20-3 at the half and should have been up more, losing would have been bad. Losing the way they did with a rash of turnovers and bad tackling and coverage allowing the whole lead to dissolve in less than a quarter was unforgivable. Oklahoma St. played badly for the most part and made their own share of totally boneheaded plays (see Justin Blackmon fumbling through the endzone untouched), but still won this game despite giving A&M a chance to win at the end.
The jury is still out on Alabama – I know they won easily over Arkansas, but Arkansas may not be very good. The Razorbacks were outgained by Troy last week and never seemed to be in the game this week. The defense is great yes, but the offense still seems to lack a deep threat and that will be a problem against LSU. The only defense with a pulse that faced Alabama so far was Penn St. and the Nittany Lions did a good job. They are just awful on offense. The Crimson Tide still have a lot to prove over the next few weeks.
Arkansas is not who we thought they were – The Razorbacks weren't ready for primetime and appear to be headed for 8-4, not the 10 win type of season many thought. I just don't think Arkansas's defense will hold up against Auburn (though the offense will win that in a shootout), LSU, South Carolina or Mississippi St. The Texas A&M game next week looks quite imposing.
Transitive property: Ohio St. is awful or Bauserman never should have been on the field – Braxton Miller got his first start and Ohio St. won easily as expected against Colorado. Meanwhile, Buckeye conquerors Miami looked awful in losing to Kansas St. at home. The same Kansas St. that was lucky to escape its FCS lamb being led to the slaughter in week 1 (10-7 win). Also, Miami conqueror Maryland was blitzed by Temple this morning. Given that, either Bauserman (who was miserable last week) should never have been on the field, or the Buckeyes are bad even with the blowout victory today.
The Big 12 is really, really good – The Big 12 continued to show well with Kansas St.'s win over Miami. Nobody in that league seems really bad other than Kansas this season and with the full round robin, everyone has to go through everyone else. Should be a lot of fun in what is the nation's best league this season (yes, over the SEC where there seems to be a big gulf between the top 2 and everyone else).
