Week 8 College Football Picks

6-4 last week after getting the biggest game right, then missing most of the other vitally important games (thank you bottom half of the big games). The 6-4 record brings the season total to 48-22. One change you will notice this week is rankings before teams. These rankings are from the top 25 posted Sunday night. You can view those here.

Game of the Week - 1Texas vs 10Missouri
Last week, I said Oklahoma would beat Texas 7 out of 10, but Texas would win that game. Same thing here. Texas is the better team, but the Missouri offense will be out for redemption after finally having an off game at the worst time last week. The Texas pass defense has had some issues, so as long as Missouri stays with the run (even when it’s not working) to keep the Texas defense honest, they will win.
Missouri 41, Texas 35

4Oklahoma vs 25 Kansas
The Kansas running game has been pretty much worthless until last week. The Oklahoma running game has been a strong complement to the dominant passing game. This week, I am taking the team the runs the ball the best, and that will be the team that normally does it better.
Oklahoma 38, Kansas 24

17Michigan St. vs 18Ohio St.
The Ohio St. offense hasn’t looked right all season. It will come back to bite them here. Javon Ringer for Michigan St. is going to get the ball 40 times in the win.
Michigan St. 24, Ohio St. 21

7BYU @ 21TCU
Beware the road game coming off a short week. This has been a problem for teams in the ACC over the last two seasons, and none of those upset (save for the ones pulled by Virginia Tech) were by teams as good as TCU. The home field advantage is magnified in these situations, and BYU hasn’t played particularly well its last two games.
TCU 27, BYU 21

2Alabama vs Ole Miss
Alabama is only going to lose before the SEC Title game if it overlooks somebody. Considering they played badly the last game out and Ole Miss won at Florida, Alabama will devote its full attention to this game.
Alabama 34, Ole Miss 14

12Virginia Tech @ Boston College
Boston College has quietly been winning, off to a 4-1 start while Virginia Tech has improved by leaps and bounds since the opening game loss to East Carolina. Ultimately, Virginia Tech is due for a fall. They probably should have lost to North Carolina and Nebraska. The luck stops here after a big day passing from Chris Crane.
Boston College 26, Virginia Tech 17

9Georgia vs Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt was overrated (as we saw last week). Georgia gets an unexpected chance to get some style points with the voters. Hope Vandy is ready to play. If not, it will get ugly, quick.
Georgia 31, Vanderbilt 7

15Boise St. vs Hawaii
The last two BCS busters face off with Hawaii having some momentum after a terrible start to the season (upset at Fresno St. and home win over Louisiana Tech). It won’t matter here. Hawaii won’t play a second straight good game away from the islands.
Boise St. 41, Hawaii 20

16LSU @ South Carolina
LSU’s offense couldn’t really get going against Florida, but they have a bigger problem. The defense looks as bad as an LSU defense has looked in many years (pre-Saban). It allowed Mississippi St. to stay in the game and even managed to make Auburn look like a competent offense before getting destroyed by Florida. Meanwhile, South Carolina has finally started to get its offense rolling the last couple of weeks.
South Carolina 34, LSU 28

13Cal @ Arizona
Arizona did not learn from their cross-state rivals. Don’t look ahead. Teams that look ahead not only risk losing that week, there is a carryover that lingers if the first defeat happens (see Arizona St. losing to UNLV then not really competing against Georgia).
Cal 31, Arizona 14
