College Football Viewers Guide Week 6

It's Friday, time for the guide of games to watch this week, ranked in order of importance in each time slot.

Morning games - Kickoff 9AM PT
Ohio St. vs Indiana - ESPN
Georgia vs Tennessee - SEC Network/ESPN Gameplan
Baylor vs Texas Tech - FSN
South Florida vs Syracuse - Big East Network/ESPN Gameplan
NC State vs Boston College - ACC Network/ESPN Gameplan
Penn St. vs Illinois - ESPN2
Wisconsin vs Minnesota - Big Ten Network
Virginia Tech vs Central Michigan - ESPNU

There are a lot of games listed here. None of them are good. The only ones that looks like they could even be close games are listed in the middle and that is because they are irrelevant in the general scheme of things. The Georgia-Tennessee should be a close bad ame between a couple of deficient teams as should South Florida-Syracuse and Penn St.-Illinois. The rest in this timeslot have mega blowout potential. For those on the West Coast, sleep in and then tune in around 11:30 and see if any of these games are close, if you even have access to any of them.

Afternoon Games - Kickoff 1230PM PT
South Carolina vs Alabama - CBS
Michigan vs Michigan St. - ABC/ESPN
Cal vs UCLA - FSN
Texas A&M vs Arkansas - ABC Regional/ESPN Gameplan
TCU vs Wyoming - CBS College Sports
Notre Dame vs Pittsburgh - NBC
North Carolina vs Clemson - ABC Regional/ESPN
Georgia Tech vs Virginia - ESPNU

Unless you are a fan of one of the teams involved in one of these games, there are really only two choices in this time slot and both are going to be good games. One is the South Carolina-Alabama game where College Gameday will be. The other is the battle of Michigan where Denard Robinson gets his biggest test yet as the Michigan quarterback and could still lose even if he passes because of his awful defense.

Primetime Games - Kickoff between 4-5PM PT
Florida vs LSU - ESPN
Miami vs Florida St. - ABC Regional/ESPN Gameplan
Arizona vs Oregon St. - Versus
Stanford vs USC - ABC Regional/ESPN Gameplan
Iowa St. vs Utah - FCS Central
Missouri vs Colorado - FSN
Kentucky vs Auburn - ESPN2
Northwestern vs Purdue - Big Ten Network
Boise St. vs Toledo - WAC Sports Network/ESPN Gameplan
Houston vs Mississippi St. - CBS College Sports
New Mexico St. vs New Mexico - ESPN Gameplan

While the most important of the games, viewer beware of the Florida-LSU game. The winner isn't likely to reach 20 points and there are probably going to be a whole lot of punts. Other than that, the primetime segment is fairly weak making up for a lack of marquee matchups with sheer volume of games. Somewhere in this mess, a good game or two will break out. Nobody has the slightest idea which one though. One highlight (or lowlight as it might be) is the toilet bowl game between the New Mexico schools. They are so bad, I have no doubt they could play a 0-0 tie if given the opportunity. Instead, they will probably go to overtime battling in the futility bowl.

Late Night Games - Kickoff 7PM PT or later
Washington vs Arizona St. - FSN Regional
Nevada vs San Jose St. - ESPNU

If you've got the Washington-Arizona St. game, it should be an entertaining if inconsequetial game. The other is just going to be a grizzly beating.
