College Football Top 25, Week 4

1Alabama (4-0) – No reason to drop Alabama after winning a tough road game. The Tide have proven themselves this season against good competition though it only gets tougher from here.

2Ohio St. (4-0) – The Buckeyes only have one win of note and are in danger of temporarily falling from this perch if they play a close game or someone in a high profile matchup looks very good before the Ohio St./Wisconsin game on October 16.

3Oregon (4-0) – Last week was very ugly. 597 yards on offense for Arizona St. means some defensive questions as Stanford rolls into town.

4TCU (4-0) – Another week, another ho hum win that didn't really meet expectations even though it was a blowout. Expect more of the same for awhile longer.

5Boise St. (4-0) – Another win over a BCS conference foe. The Broncos dominated the game but made some mistakes that could cost them if they see one of the teams ranked above them in a bowl game.

6Stanford (4-0) – The defense is much improved and the offense looks like it hasn't missed a beat without Toby Gerhardt. Would stamp themselves a true national title contender out of the Pac-10 with a win in Eugene.

7LSU (4-0) – The defense is incredible and its tough to find a collection of better wins than LSU has. That said, the passing game is going to get this team killed at some point in the next month either against Florida or Auburn.

8Arizona (4-0) – The Wildcats survived the big letdown game against Cal and have a week off to get their heads right. Oregon St. comes next and a win there should mean 8-0 before the real meat of the schedule.

9Oklahoma (4-0) – Oklahoma continues to underwhelm but there are no major tests left on the schedule after the Texas game this week and that game may not count. The Sooners need a lot of help to get back into the title chase.

10Nebraska (4-0) – Ditto Nebraska who looked bad against South Dakota St. and haven't played anyone of note whatsoever (count me in the Jake Locker is overrated and Washington is still 2000s Washington camp).

11Auburn (4-0) – Another week, another heart attack for fans and another win. The virtual bye against Louisiana-Monroe couldn't come at a better time before the SEC schedule kicks in again.

12Florida (4-0) – Gators finally found some offense against Kentucky to go with that defense. Of course Trey Burton in the Tebow package will have to be able to do more than just run or Alabama will eat these guys alive.

13Iowa (3-1) – Hawkeyes are continuing to roll teams at the level of those they struggled with last season. Nationally televised matchup with Penn St. brings chance to earn this ranking.

14Utah (4-0) – Its Groundhog Day. These guys are still playing the JV part of the schedule.

15Wisconsin (4-0) – The Badgers face another test this week against Michigan St. They will need to play better than they did against Arizona St. to survive.

16Nevada (4-0) – The WolfPack went on the road and dispatched BYU in an unspectacular workmanlike performance. Now its one last steamrolling of a non-conference foe (poor UNLV, may it not be as bad as the 700 yards of offense last year) and on to the dregs of the WAC

17Miami (2-1) – Hurricanes looked very good against Pittsburgh, but there are questions as to how good the Panthers are and Jacory Harris continues to throw interception after interception. It could be a problem as soon as this week.

18NC State (4-0) – Russell Wilson is the real deal at quarterback, at least at the college level. He is too short for the NFL at 5'11” but that doesn't stop him here. He also takes very good care of the football despite his interception returned for a touchdown against Georgia Tech.

19Kansas St. (4-0) – Another week, another big game from Daniel Thomas and another close win for Kansas St. This is starting to become a trend and Nebraska should be very concerned next Thursday night.

20Arkansas (4-0) – The Razorbacks have enough talent to be ranked higher, but a ten cent head at the end that reared its ugly head again against Alabama. No lead is safe either for or from these guys.

21South Carolina (3-1) – Stephen Garcia played a great first three quarters but I get the sense that Spurrier hates him and would like nothing more than to be rid of him. Starting Connor Shaw would accomplish that, but at what price for the rest of what still could be a big season.

22Clemson (2-1) – No wins of note keeps the Tigers ranked below South Carolina even though they played Auburn better than their cross state rivals did.

23West Virginia (3-1) – The Mountaineers played quite well against LSU, but not many teams are going to be able to score on LSU's defense this season. No shame in that performance.

24Michigan (4-0) – In this weeks tale of the defenseless, the Wolverines continued to roll up big numbers, but Denard Robinson still had to be ready just in case as Bowling Green stayed in the game until halftime.

25Air Force (3-1) – An ugly road win over Wyoming shows how far the Falcons have to go to reach Boise St.'s level (Broncos won 51-6 there as opposed to 20-14), but a tough conference road win is a tough conference road win.

Others Considered
USC (4-0) – Another week, another non-descript win. Washington St. is so bad laying 50 on them is pretty much accepted as non-descript.

Missouri (4-0) – Missouri's last second win over San Diego St. looks better now after the Aztecs destroyed a Utah St. team that challenged Oklahoma and Fresno St.

Michigan St. (4-0) – Spartans still have to prove there is a defense in there. Ranked below Michigan because the Wolverines have the same issues but are more explosive on offense.

Penn St. (3-1) – Nittany Lions continue to struggle. They are winning for now, but don't look all that good.

UCLA (2-2) – Looked the part of a top 25 team against Texas and the losses are both quality losses, but it is still a little too early to put a two loss team in the top 25, even with two quality wins.
