Post UFC 113 Q & A

1.Who was the biggest winner not fighting on the card at UFC 113?

Rashad Evans, without a doubt. Evans was knocked out decisively by Lyoto Machida last year. Even with a win over Quinton Rampage Jackson, he was unlikely to receive a title shot until Machida lost the belt or successfully defended the title a few times. With Machida out of the way, the Jackson-Evans fight later this month is now for a title shot.

Questions about Daley, Kimbo, Machida and St. Pierre/Koscheck after the jump

2.What are the futures of Paul Daley and Kimbo Slice after being cut?

For Daley, the post-suspension future is unknown. First, he is likely to be suspended by the Quebec Athletic Commission. Then he will have to find a promoter willing to take a chance on him and I don't expect that to be Strikeforce with their own recent post-fight melee and a Daley's past record including a decisive loss to middleweight champion Jake Shields. Maybe a bout or two in Japan for DREAM, possibly against Marius Zaromskis would make some sense.
As for Kimbo, if he desires to fight, its just looking for a payday. Maybe Strikeforce takes a chance on him and puts him up against Hershel Walker or Bobby Lashley. If not Strikeforce (or possibly in addition to) Kimbo probably has a future as a freakshow fighter in Japan making decent money in the tradition of Bob Sapp, Butterbean, mascots and anime characters fighting and Quinton Jackson being billed as a homeless man they picked up off the street.

3.What's next for Lyoto Machida?

At the top of the division, who knows? I see a return possibly on the year-end card against one of three fighters depending on results between now and then. Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson are the only options I see right now with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira a long shot because of his status as a training partner of Machida with Team Black House.

4.Does Josh Koscheck have any chance whatsoever against Georges St. Pierre?

He at least has a punchers chance whereas Dan Hardy had no chance a couple of months ago. Koscheck at least has the wrestling ability to either keep himself off his back or sweep to get to top position against St. Pierre. He also has developed enough as a striker tat there is at least the possibility of knockout if St. Pierre elects to stand and trade with him. Ultimately, though, I look back at the first fight between the two as a guide and looking at that, St. Pierre will win, probably by decision and decisively, but not by the clean sweep shutouts we have seen from him in the wins over Fitch, Alves and Hardy.
